TADWA Beach Trekker
The Beach Trekker has been four years in the making and designed not only to transport people across the beach but into the water (what’s the use of going to the beach if you can’t go into the water!) It originated as a request from the West Australian Sports Association and the initial prototypes were kindly supported by LotteryWest. TADWA Volunteer, Steve Gates who represented TADWA on the ‘New Inventors’ programme designed the unique “beach wheel”, which is registered (AU 144418S) and along with a team of TADWA members, who contributed towards the unique wheelchair design over of the years. The wheel is made from imported spring stainless steel and the design is inherently self sprung (suspension system) and deforms to travel over undulating ground surfaces. Under the current design specification the Beach Trekker wheels were not designed to fit any other type of carriage system. If you are interested in the wheels only you will need to make personal contact with John Otago, CAE Manager at the TADWA office. We intend to custom build each wheelchair to suit the needs of the individual. Further details about the Beach Trekker can be obtained by clicking on the links to the right. A facts sheet is available as well and an Expression of Interest form. |
