Message from the CEO
TADWA’s Purpose is "To improve the quality and enjoyment of life for people with disabilities, the frail-aged and those caring for them through the application of technology and the skills of volunteers and staff". TADWA’s Values are teamwork, loyalty, commitment, accountability, excellence, innovation, professionalism, respect. Welcome to the Technology Assisting Disability WA (TADWA) Website. I strongly encourage you to look around the Website to see what our dynamic and growing organization is all about and find out what we have to offer or perhaps how you may be able to assist us by becoming a volunteer or member or making a donation. Technology Assisting Disability WA Inc., (TADWA) is a charitable and not for profit organisation with workshops and offices located in Eden Hill, Perth Western Australia, providing customised designed & built equipment, aids and computers to people with disabilities, the frail-aged and their carers. Last year TADWA provided services to over 1,200 clients within the metropolitan and regional areas of Western Australia. Whilst we receive some funding from the WA Department of Health to assist towards meeting necessary infrastructure costs, the ‘hands on’ work is carried out by highly skilled and professional volunteers, each with particular skills in areas such as woodwork, metalwork, building construction, electrical/electronic, mechanical, engineering, computers/IT, and office skills. Our volunteers are truly the “life-blood” of TADWA and it is due to their skills and contributions of time that we are able to provide minimal cost services to clients. Over the last financial year our volunteers contributed some 27,000 hours towards enhancing the quality of lives for people with disabilities, the frail-aged and people who care for them. TADWA understands that each person’s circumstances and needs are different and we aim to customise a solution to meet the individual’s requirements. It is through the talents of skilled volunteers and professional staff that we are able to custom design solutions to mobility / recreation / daily living / communication issues or address the needs that impact on a persons’ ability to enjoy life and live independently in the community. We are a practical, ‘hands on’ organisation with a team that works in tandem with the individual, the family, carers and rehabilitation professionals in order to achieve the best outcome. In addition to the above services, TADWA Computer Service was established to assist clients with disabilities and/or special needs to obtain a computer system assembled to specific needs. A team of skilled volunteers and professional staff refurbish donated computers and associated equipment that is distributed to clients right around WA. The service also includes software and 2 years service on desktop/tower systems and 1 year on laptops (if available). These unique services assist in reducing or alleviating isolation and/or financial burden on families. Basic computer skills’ training is provided to those clients needing it by our volunteer trainers. In closing, once again I urge you to please have a look around our Website to find out more about what we do. Bob Whitaker |
